Professor in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, Colorado State University, visited in Fall 2011 to work on his award-winning book For the love of rivers: a scientist’s journey (2015, Oregon State University Press). He spent several days at Andrews Forest, but then was called away on family matters. He returned to Corvallis and took up residence at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology and the Forestry Sciences Lab to complete a draft of an essay about how he feels about rivers – and why we, as a species, love them so. The project was supported by an NSF Opus grant (Opportunity to Promote Understanding through Synthesis). In his acknowledgements Kurt credits Andrews Forest for inspiration.
