Feeding Thought

While the writers listen, ponder, chant,
someone’s in the kitchen feeding thought,
beets to make the images bright,
beans to make the sentences slender,
squash in the pasta to kindle
unusual kinship in mind and heart.
Did I say kitchen? – Studio
where the gift is seeing, offering,
tasting, knowing, humbled by
the bounty of the earth
and the generosity of you.
