Jerry Martien

Jerry Martien lives near Elk River, a tributary of Humboldt Bay. He is the author of Shell Game: A True Account of Beads and Money in North America and three books of poetry including Pieces in Place and Journey Work. He’s also released two volumes of music and spoken word, most recently The Road to Heaven. For years, Jerry was a visiting poet in rural northern California schools and later taught poetry and nature writing at Humboldt State University. He has edited and written for ephemeral bioregional rags and has organized and given local readings for three and a half decades.
