
Scott Slovic taught courses and served as chair of the graduate program in literature and environment at the University of Nevada, Reno. He also taught environmental writing at the University of Idaho until 2024. Founding president of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) from 1992 to 1995, Slovic edited ASLE’s journal, ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment for twenty-five years. Scott is the author of nearly 100 articles on environmental literature and eco-criticism and is author, editor, or co-editor of thirteen books, including Seeking Awareness in American Nature Writing (1992), Getting Over the Color Green (2001), The ISLE Reader (2003), What’s Nature Worth? (2004), and Wild Nevada (2005), among others. Currently a Senior Scientist with the Oregon Research Institute, much of Slovic’s work explores the connection between narrative language and the expression of environmental values.
