
David Gessner is a writer, editor, and cartoonist. His thirteen books include All the Wild That Remains: Edward Abbey, Wallace Stegner and the American West, Sick of Nature, and Return of the Osprey. Gessner is founder and editor-in-chief of Ecotone and has published essays in many magazines, including Outside, New York Times Magazine, Sierra, Audubon, and Orion. His awards and accolades include the John Burroughs Award for Best Nature Essay, a Pushcart Prize, and inclusion in Best American Nonrequired Reading. In 2017 he hosted the National Geographic Explorer show, “The Call of the Wild.”
